Enlisted at Derby 28th October 1914 aged 27 and 10 months
5 feet 8½ inches in height
Employed as a traveller
He never served abroad, being discharged as medically unfit due to phthisis and tuberculosis on the 28th January 1916. He contracted a chill and a cough from lying on wet grass in camp at West Mersea, which gradually got worse, resulting in the coughing up of blood and rapid loss of weight.
1911 Census: Henry Adkin was a 24 year old milkman, of 84, Havelock Road, Derby. Born in Derby, he was the husband of Hannah Adkin, also aged 24.
